Influence might be too strong of a word but I definitely wore these 45's out:

Kung Fu Fighting http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jhUkGIsKvn0

This dude could kick Shaft's ass with just his pinky!!
"They were funky chinamen, From funky chinatown.
They were choppin' men up, They were chopin' men down."

Convoy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bZ4dtYIsDS4&;feature=related

"I said Pigpen, this here's a RubberDuck and ah'ma 'bout to put the hammer."
Please note that that is our very own Monte the Head in the first 10 seconds of the video (at least, in my mind it is.)

Seasons of the Sun http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cd_Fdly3rX8

"Goodbye, Pa-paw, please pray for me,
I was the black sheep of the family.
You tried to teach me rightt from wrong,
Too much wine and too much song---
Wonder how I got along?"

Ffffffffffucking Great! I cried on my keyboard and now the fffffffffffuckin' ffffffffff-key is stuck.

Mebbe. But, ask a middle child from the 70's and see what response you get? (Uhm, you're not a middle child, are you?)

No. I'm not sure the relevance of the middle child thing - you're not gonna make me go look up the lyrics to this abominable song, are you?

No, my dear. Middle child syndrome cannot be found in the lyrics of Terry Jacks's #1 international hit.

MCS is the cross that must be borne by all children that are neither first born nor last born. It is particularly acute in those from 3-children households. It dilutes exponentially as the house becomes more and more engorged with siblings, thus, the 7th of 11 children bears a middle child syndrome of about the size of a crucifix.

Not that I am personally greatly affected by MCS but my bumpersticker does read:

"Have you Hugged your middle child today?"

Now, I have to go meet my middle child, and the other two, on their way home from school.

well, I know what the middle child syndrome is supposed to be, I just still don't get what it has to do with this song.
